Marky Pitts is retired from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) after serving as Director of the Animal Subjects Program from 1984-2003 and Director of Animal Research Issues in UCSD¹s Public Information Office.  Ms Pitts is on the PRIM&R Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees of AAALAC where she serves on its Executive Committee, and is a member of the Council of Certified Professional IACUC Administrators.  She also serves as an AAALAC ad hoc consultant/specialist and an OLAW site visitor.  In addition, Ms Pitts currently is a consultant to universities, organizations and companies on IACUC issues, and is a member of the IACUC for the Zoological Society of San Diego.  Marky chaired the Editorial Committee for the ARENA/OLAW Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Guidebook, 2nd edition and serves in an advisory capacity to the committee developing the 3rd edition, served as a member of the NIH Study on Regulatory Burden Animal Care and Use Workgroup in 1998, and President of ARENA in 1992.  Honors include the inaugural ARENA Legacy Award in 2006, the 1999 ARENA Distinguished Service Award, and the 1999 California Biomedical Research Association Distinguished Service Award.  Marky has presented on various animal research-related issues at SCAW, AALAS, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Society for Neuroscience, SRA, and NCURA, and Marky has published articles in Lab Animal and the ILAR Journal.
