IACUC 101™: "The Basics" is a full day didactic and interactive educational opportunity for both new and seasoned IACUC members, IACUC affiliates and others who contribute to their institution's animal care and use program. Didactic sessions address institutional responsibilities; IACUC charges; relevant informational resources; animal welfare laws, regulations and policies, and best standards. Students are also challenged to consider, deliberate, and develop action plans for a variety of potential IACUC scenarios.
IACUC 201 PLUS: Is a highly interactive program that applies the fundamentals of IACUC 101™ to the mechanisms necessary to achieve compliance, ensure animal welfare and facilitate animal research. Divided into 3 groups based on their role in the animal care and use program, attendees will consider and discuss a variety of topics in a more informal setting: protocol review, program review, facility inspections, and other aspects of program management such as health and safety, noncompliance, monitoring animal care and use, and/or timely "hot-topics". A complex IACUC scenario is delivered by program faculty with opportunities for audience comments and questions and with guidance from USDA, OLAW and AAALAC representatives. The program concludes with a question and answer session with representatives of OLAW, USDA, and AAALAC.
IACUC 101™ was reviewed and approved by the AAVSB RACE program for 6.5 hours of continuing education and IACUC 201 PLUS was reviewed and approved by the AAVSB RACE program for 6.0 hours of continuing education credit for Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE approval. Please contact the AAVSB RACE program if you have any comments/concerns regarding this program's validity or relevancy to the veterinary profession. AAVSB/RACE provider #556.
